The U18 Youth side take on AUL in the Quarter Final of the Inter League on Saturday March 10th . Manager Brian Laffey outlines below a summary of his squads progress so far:

“We started to get the Galway Youth squad together in mid-october, with players from Corrib Celtic, Craughwell, Colga, Mervue, Tuam Celtic, Hibs, Salthill Devon, Cregmore, West Coast Utd & Athenry coming in for some sessions – with a view of putting a squad for our 1st competitive fixture which was late-November.

Our first game was away to Clare, who were on the back of an impressive 4-0 victory away to Mayo earlier in the month. In a game that could have went either way – we came away with a 3-2 victory in a tight game with goals from Colin Brady & and two from Padraig Cunningham. The most encouraging aspect of the sides performance was that there were only two Under 18 players on show for this fixture that were aided by eight U17 players & one U16 player in Shane Hulgraine from Hibs – who looked very composed.

Our second  outing came in early January at home to Mayo. We went into the game knowing that a draw would suffice & advance us to the later stages of the competition. In a game in which we started well and took the lead on the half hour mark, to be just the one up at the break. We then scored early in the second half and again 10 mins later to race 3 up. We finished strongly to score 3 more in the last 10 mins – which included a Ryan Manning hat trick to secure victory.

We now face the AUL in the ¼ Final on Saturday  9th March in what is a repeat of 2009 final and would welcome all support to Eamon Deasy park on that day...
